The company arrives to Boston for the tech (to rehearse in the theatre in which they will perform, if I understand well) but, as usually, nothing goes smoothly. Neither with the production nor in the character's personal lives.
First the main actor hops by just to announce that he got a pilot, he's grateful for the opportunity and it's a great musical and all but as for him he has a flight to catch. This means that they have only a few days to get another actor for the role of DiMaggio, or to call back Michael Swift. Derek, Eileen and Tom want to choose the second option, it makes much more sense since Michael already knows the part. Of course Julia, who stayed at home to glue the pieces of her family together, isn't the happiest about this decision, which leads to conflicts between her and the rest of the creators. Eileen is desperate, she's afraid that the whole thing will fall apart proving that she cannot put a show on stage without her ex-husband. Things aren't going well for Ivy and Karen either. Ivy's fear that Derek's having an affair with Rebecca proves to be true, while Karen is forced by Dev to choose between him and the production.
Now there are a few characters that get on my nerves. Starting with Julia. She's being completely unprofessional, work is work and personal life is personal life. She has a problem telling the two apart. (Of course it is difficult if you start mixing the two) It's obvious that she doesn't want Michael back in the musical, to be honest, it is kind of understandable. The question, though is why it is so. Does she really just want to show her family that it's over, or she's afraid that she might make the same mistake again?
Then here's Derek. In the last few episodes I started to not dislike him that much. Now all that is gone and there is no way I will find his character anything else than a jerk who doesn't care about anything or anyone else but himself. OK maybe the production, I will admit that he is the most professional one among the four.
Ivy, I don't really know what to think about her. She obviously has a vicious side but most of the time it is kind of understandable why she is so bitter. In the last scene of the episode though, if she was about to do what I think she was then her name will go to the disliked characters list. In this last scene she accepted a drink from Dev and even though she hadn't met him before I think she recognised his name (it's a rather rare one, right) and she knew that it was Karen's boyfriend. Now if this is the case then her intention must be to hurt Karen and take revenge on her for something that has nothing to do with her: Derek's and Rebecca's affair.
And lastly, Karen and Dev. It's time for them to realise they aren't a good match for each other. Both of them have a dream and a goal and neither of them will sacrifice it for the other. Dev tried it but it hasn't lead to anything good. Time to say goodbye.
